Ninh Binh is a province to the south of Hanoi city and is located between the Red and Ma rivers. It will take roughly 2 to 2.5 hours to drive from Hanoi to Ninh Binh. The population of Ninh Binh is estimated to be around 900,00 people.

Ninh Binh is famous for its multitude of attractions, marvelous landscapes, pagodas, and many historical sites. Ninh Binh also has a very short coastline adjoining the Gulf of Tonkin.  There are many activities and attractions for you to visit within short distances from each other. In the city, you should not expect a lot of things to do or nightlife because Ninh Binh is still a peaceful rural province for the most part. You could enjoy the real beauty of the countryside in Ninh Binh. 


If you travel to Ninh Binh during the pilgrimage season, make sure you will take better care of your bags and belongings. It is a custom to tip the boat rowers in Ninh Binh, however, you do not need to buy their merchandise.

You could book a group tour to Ninh Binh from Hanoi and the transportation will be shuttle bus or book a private trip. In general, it will be the most convenient to travel by road from Hanoi city.


You should prepare comfortable walking shoes and dress politely to visit the sacred pagodas in the region.
