Things to do in HCMC

Saigon (also officially known as Ho Chi Minh City or locally in Vietnamese as Sai Gon) is Vietnam’s most booming up and coming city, a place where the action never stops. There are plenty to do around the city but we will sum up here the best you could consider for your trip!

Visit City Attractions

There are many places that could meet all of your expectation in Ho Chi Minh City. The city is more diversified and busier compared to other cities of Vietnam. You can find Buddhist pagodas as well as Hinduist temples in the city, which is quite rare with the prevalence of Buddhism in Vietnam. To entertain your historical knowledge quest, you could visit the Reunification Palace and War Remnant Museum, where you will learn and see the real exhibits from the Vietnam’s modern history. Visiting The Opera House, City Hall, and Central Post Office you will see the beautiful influence of French architecture in the city’s current appearance.

Cu Chi Tunnel

You don’t know the true meaning of claustrophobia until you’ve visited this vast network of interconnecting underground tunnels, Cu Chi tunnel, 30 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City. Used as operational headquarters by Vietcong guerillas during the Tet Offensive of 1968, they were instrumental in numerous military campaigns during the war and played a decisive role in defeating American forces. A guided tour allows you to explore the tunnels firsthand or even fire an AK-47 should you wish to emulate Chuck Norris for a day.

City Water Park

Dam Sen Water Park is a great way to beat the Saigon heat. Rides include water slides, a wave pool, and the terrifying twister space bowl that spins and dumps you on a soft mat. Once you’re waterlogged, go next door to the Amusement Park. The park is open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Entrance fees vary depending on the time of day and one’s height. Located in HCMC’s District 11. Closed Tuesdays. This is a great way for you to get away from the hot climate of the city!

Busy Markets

There are two landmark markets (cho) in Ho Chi Minh City, and numerous others. Cho Ben Thanh, located in District 1 across from the bus station, is probably the best known. It is especially popular in the evening and at night, when food vendors set up stalls and locals and tourists alike gather to eat and shop.

The other, Cho Lon, is a huge Chinese market. You will not see as many tourists here, and the variety of goods is amazing. Both markets are a lot of fun, regardless of whether you’re souvenir shopping or just browsing.

Live Music Bars – Nightlife

In terms of music life, Ho Chi Minh City is the best in Vietnam due to the cultures and lifestyles of the city’s citizens. You could find a number of bars in Ho Chi Minh city that offers great live music in the evening until the morning with different types of music performed. Check out the kind of the music available at the bar before you visit. Some of our recommendations would go to Sax n’ Art Jazz Club, Acoustic Bar, Yoko Bar, and Hard Rock Bar etc.
